SMART Leader Scorecard

SMART Leadership Scorecard
The SMART Leadership Scorecard, developed by Dr Fred Toke, PsyD, is a practical self-assessment designed to help you better understand how you lead. It focuses on five essential leadership traits inspired by the leadership of Joshua: Strength, Mastery, Alliances, Readiness, and Taking Action.
Leadership growth begins with self-awareness. This scorecard is not an examination, and there are no right or wrong answers. Respond honestly according to how you typically lead rather than how you think an ideal leader should respond.
Your scores provide a snapshot of your current leadership strengths while highlighting areas that deserve greater attention and development.
The purpose is not simply to achieve a high score, but to use what you discover to become more intentional about your growth.
Know yourself. Build on your strengths. Work on your gaps. Take action.
Because leadership is not simply a position to attain, but a person to become.
How to Score the SMART Leadership Scorecard
The SMART Leadership Scorecard measures five leadership traits: Strong, Mastery, Alliances, Readiness, and Takes Action. Each trait has 5 statements, and each statement is rated from 1 to 5.
1. Rate each statement
Read each statement and select the number that best describes how you typically lead:
1 — Strongly Disagree | 2 — Disagree | 3 — Neutral | 4 — Agree | 5 — Strongly Agree
2. Calculate each SMART trait
Add the scores of the 5 statements within each trait. Each trait therefore has a possible score from 5 to 25.
3. Plot your scores
On the SMART wheel, locate your score for each of the five traits and mark it with a dot. The center begins at 5, while the outer edge represents 25.
4. Connect the dots
Draw a line connecting all five dots. This creates your personal SMART Leadership Profile. Areas extending farther outward represent stronger traits; areas closer to the center indicate opportunities for development.
5. Calculate your overall score
Add all five trait scores together. Your maximum overall score is 125. Use the overall score guide to see where you currently fall, then use the reflection questions to identify strengths and priorities for growth.
The goal is not to create a perfect circle. The shape helps you see where you are strong and where your leadership needs greater attention.
